In honor of Women’s History Month, we're celebrating the power of Women in Country by honoring iconic heritage female artists, showcasing the genre's rising stars, and spotlighting today’s hit female artists. Today RADIO.COM welcomes singer and songwriter Lily Rose.
Speaking with RADIO.COM's Rob + Holly, the Atlanta native explained her musical roots coming from a family that had walls of CDs stacked inside their home. "Music was ingrained in me, as a fan, from extremely early on," says Lily. After asking for a drumset at 9-years-old, her parents "took the plunge" and she's been learning instruments and making her own music ever since.
Although Lily didn't grow up as a Country music listener, she says it was while sitting in the infamous Atlanta traffic as a young adult when she was bitten by the bug. "When you finally have your own radio in front of you and you're 16-years-old, that's when you kind of fall in love with what you actually love," Lily says. "Lady A, Rascal Flatts, brand new artists Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean were hot! There was no going back. I was like, 'I'm in!'"
Lily, now signed to Big Loud and enjoying chart success with her 2021 single "Villain," which she performed exclusively for us in the clip above, offered some advice for singers and songwriters looking to make their way. "I've been going at it for 13 years songwriting-wise and 8 years for the artist thing, chasing 'Lily Rose' and what it is," she admits, "and I think something that's really gone well for me is just continuing to know yourself, find who you are, and just being authentic."
"I think the best advice I ever got when it comes to being in Nashville," Lily continues, "is the talent is the easiest thing. Being a good person and being authentic and working hard are the three things that will make your career happen and last."
