The last time the Dixie Chicks took a break between albums they emerged with a GRAMMY for Album Of The Year for their intimate and emotional LP, Taking The Long Way. Now 13 years later, the trio have announced they are in the finishing stages of releasing the follow-up.
In an interview on Friday, Natalie Maines explained that the group is almost done work on their upcoming album. Titled, Gaslighter, Maines’ first album since 2006 with Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, promises to be even more personal, jumping into her recent divorce with actor Adrian Pasdar. They also plan to tour after the release.
Last month the Dixie Chicks appeared on the seventh album from Taylor Swift, adding their harmonies to the heartbreaking song, “Soon You’ll Get Better.” The track is co-written and produced by Jack Antonoff, who also appears to be a part of the upcoming album from the Dixie Chicks.
In a face-filter video posted earlier this year, the trio claim an album is coming, with Antonoff popping into screen to add, “someday.” The producer has been a part of Swift’s recent success, including production on her own Album Of The Year winner, 1989.
In total, Taking The Long Way went 2X platinum for the group, earning them 5 GRAMMY awards in February of 2007. In addition to the top prize, they also scored Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year at the ceremony.
