“There were so many funny things we talked about when we were writing the song,” Lainey admitted to Audacy’s Kelly Ford. “They were like, ‘I got this idea called things a man oughta know,’ and I said, ‘We gonna be here all night so go ahead and cancel y’all’s plans.”

They really set that one up nicely for her. So what’s an idea that didn’t make the song, you ask?

“Put the toilet lid down,” Lainey answered immediately. “I don’t know if that would sing real well,” she said before jokingly singing, “I can put the toilet lid down.”

While some may be bummed to hear Wilson left that part out, there’s no doubt Lainey has represented herself well with the lyrics she did choose to include, sending a message that promotes the impacts of kindness and human respect.

“When we wrote this song we were kind of, really just brainstorming about my childhood…  the things that my parents taught me growin’ up. Things that they thought were essential things.”

She continued, “It’s not about whether you can change a tire, or start a fire. This song right here is about the characteristics that my family taught me to look for in myself, but also in other people. That’s not something just a man ought know, that’s something that every single on of us should know.”
