Senate Runoff Races, Early Voting & Voter Registration: Important Dates Voters Need To Know

The U.S. Presidential election has been decided, yet for others, the process continues. In Georgia, there are several upcoming key runoff elections.

Voters in the 5th Congressional District will be casting their votes to decide if former Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall or former Morehouse College President Robert Franklin will serve the remainder of the late John Lewis' term. The winner will fill a short term of roughly six weeks until State Sen. Nikema Williams, elected during the general election, is sworn in. Georgia voters will also head back to the polls for two hotly contested U.S. Senate runoff elections. The nation will be watching as Georgia Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler fight for their senate seats against Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.

With control of the U.S. Senate up for grabs, included below are key dates that every Georgian needs to know.  

Key Runoff Election Dates: 

November  9th – November 25th- -Early voting begins for the 5th Congressional District runoff election. (Polls will be closed on Wednesday, November 11th, for the    veteran's day holiday​)

November 18th, 2020 - Absentee ballots will be sent out for the Senate runoff 

December 1st,2020 - Runoff Election Day for 5th Congressional District 

December 7th, 2020 - Deadline to register to vote for the Senate runoff elections

December 14th, 2020 - Early voting begins for the Senate runoff elections.

January 5th, 2021 - Senate runoff elections

***Absentee ballots can be requested at any time; however, separate requests must be made for the December 1st and January 5th runoffs.

***Early voting is underway for the 5th Congressional District runoff on December 1st, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the next three weeks. Saturday voting will be on November 21st.
