Doctor Glenda Glover, International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., says it took far more than 300,000 votes from Kamala Harris’ sorority sisters to get her elected. “It was the entire Divine 9” says Glover, referring to the Black Greek letter organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Iota Phi Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta. Harris became a member of AKA in 1986 while a student at Howard University in Washington D.C.

Along with U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, Harris is the Vice President-elect. She is the first woman and woman of color in that position.

Glover says it shows the power of two million college educated individuals. “They got together and got this vote out and if you get to the polls you know what to do”, says Glover.

A history maker in her own right, Glover is the first female President of her alma mater Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.

“It’s an inspirational victory”, Glover says of Harris’ successful bid with Biden for the White House, “If you can see it, you can be it.”
