2022 Subaru BRZ Limited
Bob Jackson

Sure.  Just look at it.

But…if it's true love that you're after, take Subie's redesigned BRZ to a lonely winding two lane road and see what happens.

Why?

'Cause the BRZ is a real, genuine, rear-wheel-drive 2.4 liter 228 HP sports car…although it's got a whole other "take home to Mama" personality that I'll tell you about in a moment.

Sharp seat-of-the-pants handling, sporty looks, poised ride…perhaps best experienced stirring through the six forward gears personally with a "retro" clutch and stick-shift as we had in our test BRZ.   An automatic is offered, tho', for those of us who spend waaay too much of our days commuting in heavy traffic.

So let's back up for a moment.   In a gathering of Subarus perhaps best known for Outbacks, Foresters and Crosstrecks, the BRZ stands out as the redhead of the family.   Pretty much a 2-seater.   While it does have two seats in the rear...and I was able to squeeze two not-quite-teenage Grandmonsters back there sitting cross-legged for a quick 15-minute trip…the BRZ is really built for two.   Just flip down the rear seats…throw in a few bags, picnic supplies…there's even room for some serious outdoor gear…and head for the hills..

When you do, you'll experience what's new about the BRZ for '22...a wider track, improved suspension, and even smoother shifting transmission…in other words, all the things that make a sports car a sports car.

And unlike every other Subaru made, the BRZ…in true sports car fashion…is rear-wheel drive only.   Why?   You get a bit more feel as you power through those corners.

So…how much?   Most people were surprised when I told them that the BRX starts in the high $20's.   Add a couple of thousand…take the window sticker up to the very low $30's…and add 18" alloys, Michelin Pilot Sport rubber, leather-trimmed heated seats and LED lighting.   Mileage is rated at 21 city and 30 highway.

And that's the surprise…the other side of the BRZ's personality that I mentioned earlier.

While Subaru's BRZ is every bit a genuine sports car, its 30 MPGs and $30K pricing just might make the BRZ one of the sexiest economy cars on the road today.
