Auto NSider | 2022 KIA Sorento X-Line-Prestige AWD

What is this?

2022 KIA Sorento X-Line-Prestige AWD
Bob Jackson

Here's what I mean by that question….

Sure…obviously this is KIA's original SUV…their family-friendly easily garageable / parkable three-row award-winner.

BUT….

We don't usually think of Sorentos as luxury vehicles, do we?

Or performance off-roaders either, right?

Well, it might be time to change our thinking.

While Sorentos have been on the road for 14 years now, their "X-Line" is fairly new…introduced to the US in '21.

And what does the X-Line give you above and beyond the base 30K Sorento?

A reassuring bit of off-road / rough weather capability.

You'll get a 1" increased ride height, a center-locking AWD system, and roof rails.   While I wouldn't necessarily take this up and down the rocky trails of Moab, Utah that we've all seen in TV commercials, I'd drive this with confidence down any muddy / snowy country dirt road.

And if this sounds like your kind of ride, KIA gives you the opportunity to dress it up pretty much however you'd like.

We got our X-Line in top-trim SX-Prestige trim, and that got us KIA's 281 HP turbo four, a healthy 311 ft lbs of torque, and an 8-speed dual clutch automatic.

Want a surprise?

The turbo is rated at 25 combined city / highway MPG's…just one less than their base non-turbo 191 HP four.   My advice?   Take the turbo.

Then, as you'd imagine in a top-of-the-line vehicle, the Prestige package brought heated and ventilated front-row leather, heated rears, heated steering, Bose premium audio, surround-view, a hands-free liftgate, all of todays alerts and warnings…plus 20" grey alloys that perfectly complimented KIA's new, optional "Wolf Grey" paint….all for 45 thousand including transportation.

If that's not enough, here's something that all Sorentos get this year:   One free year of "KIA Connect"…their remote start / stop / heat / cool / lock / unlock + voice control system.

With the ability to tackle some tough terrain…and go 0-60 in roughly seven seconds…all the while sporting an interior that would look at home in a vehicle costing twenty-thousand more…see if you don't find yourself joining me in asking "What is this…when did KIA start doing all this?"
