
As Hurricane Helene strengthens and the risk for significant flooding in metro Atlanta, a number of metro Atlanta school districts are canceling classes, athletic events and after-school activities.

Atlanta Public Schools- All APS schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday. District office employees will work remotely. An update will be provided on Friday afternoon for activities currently planned for Saturday.
Atlanta Technical College - Atlanta Technical College campuses will be working virtually on Thursday and Friday.
Banks County Schools- Banks County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday and Friday. All sports and extra-curricular activities will be canceled for Thursday and Friday.
Barrow County Schools- Schools will be open on Thursday, but closed on Friday. After-school activities have also been canceled.
Bartow County Schools-The Bartow County School System will be closed to all students and staff Thursday and Friday.
Butts County Schools - The Butts County School System will be open on Thursday and closed on Friday.
Calhoun City Schools-Calhoun City Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Thursday and Friday. All Thursday school activities are canceled.
Carroll County Schools- Carroll County School System is canceling all after-school extracurricular activities for Thursday, September 26. Friday, September 27 will be a Distance Learning Day for all students. All employees will work remotely to support Distance Learning and other work requirements. A decision on Friday night football games will be made at a later time.
Cherokee County Schools - Cherokee County Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Clark Atlanta University -The campus will close early on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. On Friday, the campuses will operate remotely.
Clarke County Schools - Clarke County Schools canceled all after-school activities for Thursday. School will be open Thursday, but closed Friday.
Clayton County Schools - Clayton County Schools will have a virtual learning day on Thursday. All schools and district offices will be closed Friday. All athletic events, extra-curricular activities, and school system-related events and programs have been canceled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Clayton State University - Clayton State University will close campus at 1 p.m. Thursday and be closed all-day Friday, Sept. 27 due to concerns about Hurricane Helene.
Coweta County Schools - All Coweta County Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities have been canceled.
City of Decatur Schools - All facilities of the City Schools of Decatur, including College Heights ECLC, will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, all CSD extracurricular activities are canceled.
DeKalb County Schools - All DCSD schools and activities will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Douglas County Schools - At this time, schools will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday, September 26, 2024. However, all after-school activities and programs on that day will be canceled. In addition, all classes, after school events and activities will be canceled for Friday, September 27.
Emory University - Emory University, including Oxford College, will transition to remote work and virtual learning Thursday and Friday.
Fulton County Schools - Fulton County Schools has canceled after-school activities for Thursday. All schools and central offices will be closed on Friday.
Georgia College & State University - Georgia College & State University will suspend all classes and programming activities for Thursday and Friday.

Greene County Schools - Extracurricular events have been canceled on Thursday. A decision has not yet been made on if schools will be open on Friday
Griffin-Spalding County Schools - Griffin-Spalding County School District operations will be canceled on Thursday and Friday.
Gwinnett County Schools - Gwinnett County Schools will operate on a digital learning day on Thursday. All after-school activities are canceled. All staff will report to their locations. All schools will be closed on Friday and all after-school activities are canceled. All GCPS activities and events on Saturday, September 28, are canceled.
Hall County Schools - The Hall County School District will conduct school from home both Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular events for both Thursday and Friday are canceled or postponed.
Henry County Schools - Henry County Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All school-related activities are canceled on Thursday and Friday.
Jackson County Schools - The Jackson County School System will hold normal operations on Thursday, while all extracurricular activities will be canceled. The Jackson County School System will be CLOSED on Friday. All schools and offices will be closed.
Jasper County Schools - All Jasper County Schools will be open on Thursday, but after-school activities have been canceled. School officials have not yet made a decision on Friday.
Kennesaw State University - Kennesaw State University will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Lamar County Schools - All Lamar County Schools will be open on Thursday and closed on Friday.
Madison County Schools - All schools will operate on early release at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and closed on Friday. All extra-curricular activities have been canceled.
Meriwether County Schools - All Meriwether County Schools will transition to remote learning on Thursday and Friday.
Morehouse College - The campus will close early on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. On Friday, the campuses will operate remotely.
Morehouse School of Medicine - The campus will close early on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. On Friday, the campuses will operate remotely.
Morgan County Schools - All schools will have a remote learning day on Friday. Extracurricular activities are being canceled on Thursday.
Newton County Schools - All Newton County Schools and district offices on both Thursday and Friday. At this time, Saturday activities will continue as planned unless changes become necessary.
Paulding County Schools - All Paulding County schools, facilities and district offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. All extracurricular activities are also canceled on Thursday and Friday.
Reinhardt University- Reinhardt University will close Thursday, Sept. 26 at noon, and remain closed on Friday, Sept. 27. This encompasses the main campus in Cherokee County and the Cauble School of Nursing campus in Jasper.
Rockdale County Schools - Rockdale County Schools will have remote learning on Thursday and be closed on Friday.
Spelman College - The campus will close early on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. On Friday, the campuses will operate remotely.
Troup County Schools - All Troup County Schools and System Offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All after-school activities on those days are canceled or, if necessary, rescheduled. A decision will be made for Saturday events at a later time.
University of Georgia - The main campus of the University of Georgia will be closed on Thursday and Friday. All in-person classes, campus events and activities will be canceled during this time.
Walton County Schools - Schools will be open on Thursday, but closed on Friday. Extracurricular activities have been cancelled.
Flights Cancelations
As Georgia prepares for inclement weather that Hurricane Helene will bring, FlightAware currently shows over 100 flight delays and over 100 Thursday flight cancellations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
On Wednesday, more than 1,100 flights were delayed at the airport.
Because of this, several airlines have issued travel waivers, including Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines.
The airline says flights to, from and through Atlanta for Sept. 27 can be rebooked before Oct. 1. The fare difference will be waived. Flights for Sept. 25 through Sept. 27 can be rebooked by Oct. 4 for travelers with fare difference waived in the following cities:
