Under a new proposed citywide curfew in Atlanta, children age 16 and under would have to be off the streets by 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. The measure was introduced by Atlanta City Councilman Antonio Lewis. Council is expected to meet Tuesday to vote on the latest version of a change to the city's curfew.
City councilwoman Keisha Waites attempted to update Atlanta's curfew last November, following the shooting deaths of two boys shot and killed near Atlantic Station. Waites wanted the curfew set at 7pm.
The latest plan provides for a warning or citation to be given with the initial violation. Children along with parents or guardians would be required to attend a parenting program upon a second violation.
