A quick two game homestand was exactly what the Braves needed after going 1-5 on their west coast road trip. The Braves offense got out of their slump in their quick two game series against the Red Sox scoring nine runs in two games after only scoring six runs in their three previous games against the Dodgers and only 14 runs in during their entire six game west coast swing. However, Marcell Ozuna has carried a heavy load for the Braves when it comes to offensive production, not only these past two games, but all season, and earlier today The Morning Shift explained why the bats around Marcell Ozuna must heat up for the Braves.
Over the past three games Ozuna has driven home 6 of the Braves’ 10 runs, and he currently leads the Braves and Major League Baseball in home runs and RBIs this season. Marcell also leads the Braves in batting average, hits, and on-base percentage.
If you go back a year and a day Marcell Ozuna was batting .146 and was just starting to get out of the slump of his life after he finished April of 2023 hitting .085 with a .397 OPS. Since then, he's hit .301 with a .984 OPS and leads the majors with 50 home runs and 136 RBI in 160 games. Ozuna also joined 1959 Hank Aaron (13 HR and 39 RBIs) as the only Braves to have 12 plus home runs and 38 plus RBIs through the team's first 34 games.
Honestly, Beau said it best earlier today when he said “it’s Marcell Ozuna and then a bunch of JAGS (just another guy) right now.”, and if Ronald Acuña Jr., Austin Riley, Matt Olson can get their bats hot while Ozuna is hot. The Braves can have another historic season offensively.
