Braves need to trade Marcell Ozuna, build for 2026

After last night’s 2-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks the Atlanta Braves have now lost three games in a row, dropped five straight series, and have also lost 10 of their last 13 games. The Braves are fourth in the NL East, 11 games behind the first place New York Mets, and six games out of the final wild card spot. Now, of course there’s still time for Atlanta to make a run at the 2025 postseason, but Mike Johnson believes it’s time to think about making moves that’ll help the team in 2026.

“There’s so many dead end pieces that you are locked into long term Sean Murphy, Michael Harris II, Matt Olson, like you have all these pieces that you feel like are locked in how can you make this team better, and Marcell Ozuna is one guy that’s not under contract long term that I feel like boy you get what you can get.” Mike said

If Atlanta continues to struggle they could be legit sellers at the July 31st trade deadline, and Marcell Ozuna would be the prime trade piece Atlanta would be looking to part ways with because of his expiring contract.

Teams that are buyers would like his expiring contract because he would be the ideal rental to a legit contender, and for the Braves they’re getting something back for Ozuna instead of potentially losing him for nothing in free agency in the offseason.

If the Braves don’t turn things around fast some tough decisions will have to be made, and whether or not to trade the Big Bear will definitely be one of those decisions.
