On Monday, the Atlanta Braves announce they promoted bench coach, Walt Weiss to be the club’s new manager, bringing speculations of who would succeed Brian Snitker to an end and on Tuesday, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager, Alex Anthopoulos joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mark Zinno, to discuss the decision name Weiss their new skipper the future of several players including Ozzie Albies
“As a young GM, I’d probably be like, you know what, we need to make a splash, we need to P.R. all this kind of stuff, which is the wrong thing to do and this was the best guy,” Anthopoulos told Dukes and Zinno about the decision to promote Weiss. “We were really thorough and feel great about it and I know people think, ‘well you know, we should have gone outside’ and all this kind of stuff and I understand the sentiment there,” Anthopoulos said.
The Braves’ GM also shared that club has plans to exercise their option on second baseman, Ozzie Albies, ending any speculations, the organization would move on from him. “Ozzie’s a core guy,” Anthopoulos said, acknowledging Albies did struggle this past season however, “second half of the year, he was back to himself, July, August and September,” Anthopoulos said of Albies.
