President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Atlanta this Friday, March 19, as part of the “Help is Here” tour to amplify the American Rescue Plan, according to The White House. Sources are calling the visit a nationwide "victory lap" to celebrate the passage of the landmark $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.
The Covid relief legislation will send $1,400 direct payments to many Americans, will extend unemployments benefits throughout the summer, give new tax credits for parents, provide money to reopen schools, allow health insurance incentives, and deliver funding for vaccine distribution - all in the effort to provide hope to American citizens entering the next phase of the pandemic that has killed more than 529,000 Americans.
Biden will also visit Pennsylvania, while Harris will visit Nevada, both additional key battleground states.
President Biden's last visit to Atlanta was January 4, the day before the Senate runoff election race and Vice President Harris' last visit to Georgia was January 3rd at a rally in Savannah. Biden carried Georgia in November's election, becoming the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state since 1992.
The White House said additional details of the Atlanta visit on March 19th are not yet available.
