It’s the end of the road for one of the longest-running Rock bands to ever hit the stage, as Aerosmith announces their official retirement from touring after canceling the remaining dates of their Peace Out farewell tour.

Just before the weekend hit on Friday, August 2, Aerosmith posted a message to social media revealing the “heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision" to end their time on the road due to singer Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury sustained on tour last year.
“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history,” the Hall of Famers -- inducted in 2001 -- began their emotional message. "It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours," the band adds. "In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives."
Just three days into their farewell tour at Long Island, NY's UBS Arena on September 9 last year, frontman Steven Tyler had fractured his larynx leading to vocal cord damage, and forcing the rest of the outing to be postponed until 2024. Unfortunately, Tyler is still struggling, and their plan to return to the road has now changed entirely.
Explaining their decision, the band continued, "Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision - as a band of brothers - to retire from the touring stage."
Finally, addressing fans once again -- and all who have worked with the band throughout their 50-year tenure -- Aerosmith says, "We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you — the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true."
Any tickets purchased through Ticketmaster for Aerosmith's Peace Out tour will be automatically refunded. All other refunds will be available at the point of purchase.
While on break as Tyler received treatment in December of 2023, guitarist Joe Perry revealed to his hometown paper The Boston Globe that Aerosmith had "a ton of unreleased material coming out over the next year and a half with remixes and alternate takes,” as well as a video of their 1976 concert at the Pontiac Silverdome -- so it looks like fans will still have plenty to pump for the foreseeable future.
