Celtics TV ratings up big from last season

After getting to the NBA Finals last season, the Celtics have only given fans even more reason to be excited about this season thanks to their excellent start, as they’re currently atop the NBA with a 21-5 record.

Unsurprisingly, that has translated to a big boost in TV ratings. The Celtics’ average household ratings on NBC Sports Boston are up 45% over last season, a source tells WEEI. That ranks third in the NBA behind only the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

After a 4-3 start to the season, the Celtics have been on fire for the last month, going 17-2 over their last nine games. Their 10-game home winning streak was snapped by the Miami Heat on Friday, but they’ve followed that up with three straight wins to open a six-game road trip, including a 125-98 beatdown of the Western Conference-leading Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.

Last month, NESN revealed that the Celtics’ TD Garden roommates, the Bruins, have also seen a big jump in viewership, saying theirs was up 34% over last season. The Bruins, like the Celtics, have the best record in their league.

When the Celtics and Bruins have gone head-to-head this season, the Bruins have edged out the Celtics in total household impressions, while the Celtics have held the edge in the men age 25-54 and adults age 25-54 demographics.
