JD Davison finally had his breakout Summer League performance.

The Celtics’ second-round draft pick lit up the Grizzlies Thursday with 28 points, 10 assists, five rebounds, three steals and one block in Boston’s 108-91 victory. Perhaps most encouragingly, he drained four 3-pointers, and shot 9-for-14 from the field.

That’s a good sign, considering he just shot 30.1 percent from beyond the arc last season with Alabama.

It was appropriate that Davison’s night started with two 3s. After the game, he told reporters he was working on his shooting with his agent, Mike Miller, a slick sharpshooter himself. Later in the first half, Davison drove to the hole for a tough lefty layup and nailed a bank shot over a defender’s head.

Davison facilitated 10 alley-oops as well.

A consensus five-star recruit, Davison entered Alabama as one of the top point guards of his class. He was solid as a freshman, averaging 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest.

Davison also consistently brought the house down with some monster dunks.

With an expected point guard rotation of Marcus Smart, Malcolm Brogdon and Derrick White, there probably won’t be much room for Davison to contribute next season. But that’s fine. Davison was taken in the second round.

The Celtics can afford to wait and watch him blossom. They received a sneak peak Thursday.
