Baseball is a sport for the young, but two players in their 40s showed it can also be an old man’s game at time.

Pirates pitcher, 43-year-old Rich Hill and 40-year-old Miguel Cabrera has a race to the first base bag during Wednesday’s afternoon game in Detroit.

Cabrera, currently batting .189, hit an infield grounder, fielded by Pirates first baseman Carlos Santana, who was well off the bag.

It then became a race to the bag with Hill just beating out Cabrera to record the final out of the second inning.

The two shared a smile after the play with Hill tapping Miggy on the backside with his glove.

Both looked they were working to beat the other to the base.

According to Joe Block, Hill first faced Cabrera in June 2005, Hill was a rookie with the Cubs and Cabrera was in his third-year with the Marlins.

It’s likely the final meeting between the two with the first taking place almost 18 years ago.

Advantage Dick Mountain, but Cabrera is a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
