Nelson Agholor wows with touchdown grabs on Day 2 of joint practices with Panthers

One of the Patriots’ biggest question marks at wide receiver coming into this season had his biggest day yet at Wednesday’s practice against the Carolina Panthers.

Nelson Agholor was on the receiving end of two impressive touchdown passes from Mac Jones in red-zone drills against the Panthers defense.

The first came just after a fight delayed the start of the Patriots’ first-team offensive drills with Jones lifting a perfect route into the left corner of the end zone for Agholor, who held at least two defenders at bay before catching the ball over his shoulder. The ball came out late, but the referee signaled Agholor had controlled the catch long enough to count as a score.

The second TD was even more impressive.

Jones lofted an end-zone fade route to a well-covered Agholor with two defenders in the area. But Agholor went up over both players to make the grab on a trust ball that looked destined to fall incomplete or get picked.

The veteran receiver has also continued torturing Panthers defenders during 1-on-1s, winning easily with his speed and quickness, and caught Jones’ first two passes in the practice-ending two-minute drill as well.

“I don’t know if I’ve seen a receiver who knows football as well as he does. He’s almost like a quarterback," Mac Jones said of Agholor after Wednesday's practice.

As well as pass-catchers like DeVante Parker and Tyquan Thornton have played these last few days against the Panthers, Agholor has made a case to be the most impressive receiver on the team this week.

While he's been the subject of trade rumors this season, especially after a rough first year with the Patriots, it might be time to buy some stock in Agholor (even as Kendrick Bourne's keeps going down).
