Red Sox trade for potential first base candidate
The Red Sox have added another name to their first base mix, trading for former A's infielder Ryan Noda in exchange for cash considerations.
Noda has been assigned to Triple-A Worcester, with Masa Yoshida being moved to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster.
The 29-year-old Noda had been playing for the Angels' Triple-A team in Salt Lake before recently being designated for assignment. The previous two seasons he was in the A's organization, spending the majority of last year in the minor leagues.
The lefty-hitting Noda was Oakland's everyday first baseman in 2023 after begin taken in the Rule 5 Draft the previous offseason. During that first season with the A's he .229 with a .770 OPS and 16 homers in 128 games. He did strikeout 170 times
In 2024, Noda appeared in just 36 games, hitting .137 with a .465 OPS and one homer.
Before being designated for assignment, Noda was hitting just .148 with a .633 OPS and four home runs in 38 Triple-A games. He also has played a significant time as a corner outfielder.
