Nothing gets past Rex Ryan.
The bombastic ex-head coach made a prediction Sunday about where Tom Brady would play next season that sounded ridiculous even before Brady announced his retirement Wednesday morning.
is Brady's broadcasting career already doomed?
For some reason, Ryan floated the idea of Brady and Sean Payton joining forces in … Washington.
“Watch the Washington Commanders in this,” he said. “Here’s why I say it could happen: there’s a strong possibility there’s going to be a change in ownership. When that happens, these owners aren’t tied in to that coach. To me, I can see a Sean Payton-Tom Brady, we talk about Miami. It was going to be that marriage of those two. So I could possibly see that down the road. If he doesn’t sign with the Raiders immediately, I could see that as a possibility.”
As an NFL analyst, Ryan is paid to provide his opinion, and there’s nothing wrong with making a bad prediction. But this one is an all-timer.
For starters, the Commanders are an absolute mess of a franchise. New ownership would provide needed stability, but conceivably, it would take a couple of seasons before the Commanders could become bonafide contenders.
Though they feature a strong running game and some talented weapons — Brian Robinson Jr., Terry McLaurlin and Curtis Samuel — it’s far from a complete roster.
Plus, Brady has no connection to Washington. Though it was reported last year he wanted to team up with Sean Payton in Miami, it’s not like they were a package deal.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Broncos hired Payton to be their next head coach. Roughly 16 hours later, Brady retired.
Rex should be go back to the drawing board.
