Russell Wilson threw perhaps the most infamous interception in NFL history when he attempted to throw on 2nd-and-goal with the Super Bowl on the line against the Patriots.
Apparently, he hasn’t learned his lesson.
The NFL's concussion crisis will never impact its ratings
The Broncos and Colts played an abominable game Thursday night that went into overtime with the score tied 9-9. Indianapolis kicked a field goal on its first possession, giving the Broncos an opportunity to score a touchdown for the win. And it seemed like it was going to happen. They were facing a 4th-and-1 from the Colts’ 5-yard line.
But Wilson decided to throw. An Indy defender batted down the pass intended for Courtland Sutton, and that was the ballgame.
Making matters worse, Broncos wideout K.J. Hamler was wide open on the play. As he said afterwards, he could've walked into the end zone.
Richard Sherman, who helplessly watched Wilson throw his Super Bowl-losing interception from the sidelines, exploded on his former teammate during Amazon’s postgame coverage.
“You need one yard. Run the ball!,” said Sherman, picking up his delivery. “Run the ball! All he has to do is run the football. I’ve had enough criticism for him, but God dang it, run the dang ball! Like, learn from your mistakes!”
Eight years later, it’s apparent the loss still haunts Sherman. Seattle went into a tailspin following the defeat, with Wilson even organizing a player trip to Hawaii to try and move on. One of their activities included standing as a team on the edge of a cliff.
Wilson has seemingly fallen off that cliff now, playing an awful game Thursday on top of an awful start to the season. He also threw a late interception on the Colts’ 13-yard line, which allowed them to get the ball back and kick the game-tying field goal.
Let Russ Cook — except when you’re near the goal line. Sherman knows what could happen next.
