A little more than a week ago former Patriots star and current “Inside the NFL” analyst Julian Edelman got a chance to give his impression of former teammates Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski during ESPN’s ManningCast of the Monday Night Football game between the Bucs and Giants.
This week, on the latest episode of his SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Go! With Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray” Brady got a chance to assess Edelman’s impressions. And he began with some praise for his former favorite target.
“It’s so funny,” Brady said. “And you know what? I think he’s right on! Usually I tell Julian to stick to his day job with something like this. I don’t even think he has a day job, though. He was pretty right on with that conversation. He’s always mimicked me pretty well, mimicked Gronk pretty well, mimicked [Bill] Belichick pretty well over the years and now that he’s got a platform to do it? He’s doing a good job of it.”
Not surprisingly, Brady couldn’t help himself and had to finish off with a bit of zinger.
“He basically pretended to be Wes Welker his whole career so what can’t he do?”
Ouch, babe! (Edelman also revealed in his ManningCast appearance that Brady is a “babe” guy.)
Welker, of course, preceded Edelman as Brady’s go-to slot receiver piling up the production for years in New England. To be fair, five-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro Welker did catch 672 passes for 7,459 yards in his six seasons with the Patriots while Edelman hauled in 620 passes for 6,822 yards in his 11 seasons in Foxborough.
Of course Edelman has three Super Bowl rings and a Super Bowl MVP to his resume as well, while Welker never won the big one in his time with Brady in New England.
