(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- More than 1,000 nurses at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago are poised to strike.
The vote to authorize a strike was overwhelming, 995-12.
The current contract covering the nurses expires on Monday, and the main issue is staffing levels. Union members are seeking limits on the number of patients assigned to each nurse.
They must give the hospital 10 days before walking off the job.
Contract talks have gone on for weeks.
The U of I nurses are members of the Illinois Nurses Association.
