Snowy Halloween night leads to massive pileup crashes in Matteson
MATTESON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It was a scary Halloween night on the roads in south suburban Matteson, where snow and ice led to over a dozen vehicles with damage in two separate crashes.
Mary Stoxsell was warned to avoid Lincoln Highway near I-57 because of ice, so she exited at Vollmer and said it was slippery there as well.
Her husband Earl told CBS-2 he came to pick her up after she crashed.
"She got hit on the side at the first car, and then a second car hit her on the back, and all the cars in the back of her were running into each other," he said.
Mary Stoxsell said she didn't see any salt trucks until after the crash.
A village spokesman said the seven-car pileup at Vollmer and Cicero followed one involving nine cars at Lincoln Highway over Interstate 57.
No one was seriously injured. Salt trucks showed up shortly after.
