Joliet PD lifts shelter in place order, arrest 3 burglary suspects after hours long search

JOLIET (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A shelter in place order has been lifted in Joliet following a manhunt for burglary suspects this morning.

Joliet Police were asked to help other DuPage County law enforcement agencies after two stolen vehicles were spotted driving near Black Road and Junie Court around 5:00 a.m.

Sergeant Dwayne English said the suspects had stolen one of the cars from Lockport before taking another at an unknown location.

“Officers did deploy Stop Sticks and both [vehicles] became inoperable from the stop sticks and the occupants bailed from the vehicle,” English said.

Four men started running away, leading to an hours-long manhunt involving police, drones and K9s.

“Information was gathered at that time that led officers to believe that these suspects may be armed,” added English. “Upon learning that information, officers immediately set up a perimeter of the area and released what is called a 9-1-1 reverse message to the residents of the local area, advising them to shelter in place.”

Two Chicago men and a teenager, ages 21, 20 and 16 were taken into custody.

Joliet Police lifted the shelter-in-place order around 10:30 Tuesday morning, saying the fourth suspect may no longer be in the area.

English said the group is wanted in connection with a number of car thefts and burglaries throughout the western and northern suburbs.
