Chicago shines during Tony Awards

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago was represented at Sunday night's Tony Awards.

Downers Grove native Lauren Patten won the Featured Actress Tony for her performance in "Jagged Little Pill," which is based on the 1995 album by Alanis Morissette. Lemont's Diablo Cody wrote the book for the musical.

"Thank you. This is an honor. It is such a joy to finally be able to celebrate all of these phenomenal artists in this room after this long, long pause," Patten said in her speech.

Patten made her stage debut at the age of 12 in the Goodman Theater's production of "A Christmas Carol."

Steppenwolf's Lois Smith is the oldest actor to win a Tony for her performance in "The Inheritance." At 90, she's the oldest person to ever win a Tony for acting. She joined the Steppenwolf ensemble in 1993.
