CTA joins in on using image of Sen. Bernie Sanders in mittens as meme
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A photo of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) donning giant handmade mittens and a winter coat at the 2021 Inauguration has gone viral.
A photo of Sanders seen sitting cross-legged in a folding chair at the inauguration, wearing a mask, black trousers, a heavy winter coat, and some patterned wool mittens has been posted all over the internet since Wednesday afternoon with differing comments.
Some even turned the photo into a meme, including the Chicago Transit Authority.
The CTA superimposed Sanders' photo onto a seat of an empty train car, with the caption "Doors closing."
Other Twitter users placed Sanders photo on a snowy Chicago street, as if he were holding dibs for a parking space.
Sanders' mittens were made by Jen Ellis, a second-grade teacher from Essex Junction, Vermont. She said she sent the Sander campaign 10 pairs of homemade mittens last year, and eventually they started popping up on the campaign trail.
