EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A house built by Evanston Township High School math students moved to its permanent address Monday.
A semi transported the two-story, three bedroom, two and a half bath house from the high school to a lot on a tree-lined street about a mile away.
Geometry in Construction teacher Matthew Kaiser says the class gives students practical applications for Pythagorean theorems and proofs.
“They’re really allowed to experience the math, experience the geometry in a way that sitting in a normal classroom they would never have an opportunity to do,” Kaiser says.
His co-teacher, Maryjoy Heineman, calls the idea of a child that moves into the house and goes to the high school a full-circle moment.
“Any child that lives in that home could eventually go to ETHS, which is a full-circle, wonderful and important moment,” Heineman.
Evanston Council Member Krissie Harris watched as the first floor of the 15-hundred square foot home was lowered onto the foundation at 1319 McDaniel Ave.
She says having a new and affordable home on the lot that has been vacant for years will uplift the neighborhood and the community.
Anyone interested in buying the house must register for a Community Land Trust Homeownership session and meet income requirements.

The city and the school are working with Community Partners for Affordable Housing to find the new owners, as they have for the previous eight houses built in the program.
About 100 students will begin constructing the tenth next affordable home this month.
