Girlfriend of man shot and killed by CPD last week demanding release of body camera footage

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The girlfriend of a man killed by Chicago police while responding to her 911 call last week wants the body camera video of the incident released quickly.

The family of Timothy Glaze said the Cook County Medical Examiner found he was shot 28 times.

Charlotta Pritchett brought police to her apartment in the CHA’s Albany Terrace building when she called about a domestic incident at around 2 a.m. Friday.

It’s a move she told CBS News Chicago she deeply regrets.

"I just want to say to anyone out there that has a mental disability or a mental breakdown, don't say the word ‘knife’ when you call 911. I don't want to call 911 ever again in my life because it took his life,” Prichett said.

She acknowledged she had an order of protection against Glaze but said he needed her help during a mental health crisis.

"Before I can get out of the chair to say, hey, ‘I'm the lady who called.’ I didn't get a chance to get to the door when we heard this enormous amount of gunfire, at least 35 or 40 rounds," Pritchett added.

She and others like Baltazar Enriquez with the Little Village Community Council want to ensure police approach situations like this with caution.

"We want to make sure that there's policy in place when the police answers to calls like senior homes, like mental health institutions, for them to understand that there's a crisis," Enriquez told CBS News Chicago.

Police said the 58-year-old lunged at officers when they knocked on the door, so they shot him. COPA put out a statement yesterday, saying they will release body camera video of the shooting within 60 days unless prohibited by court order.
