South suburban peewee football team fighting league suspension after 13-year-old player discovered to be sophomore in high school

GLENWOOD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was a rally Monday night supporting a peewee football team in Glenwood that has been suspended because one player skipped a couple grades and is now a high school student.

As of now, the Glenwood Cougars’ season is over. Rest of their regular season and postseason games will have to be forfeited because an academically-advanced  13-year-old player skipped from the 7th grade to his sophomore year in high school.

The league rules say no high school students.

Coach Gary Richardson stood with the boy, Tremayne Gandy Jr.

"This young man right here – this is what it's all about. This is our future. And that's what I'm most proud of, that we're all standing together to support this young man. I'm happy," Richardson told CBS-2.

They’re hoping the league reverses the decision.
