Pritzker weighs in on Madigan indictment, calls behavior ‘deplorable’

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker called the behavior outlined against former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan in a federal racketeering indictment ‘deplorable.’

The governor said the indictment of the long-term house and democratic party leader is an important step in cleaning up the state.

"When people take public office, and either with the purpose of lining their own pockets of stealing from the public or who decided somewhere along the way that, that's okay. That's important," Pritzker said.

The governor said he spoke to federal investigators last month as a witness.

"They wanted to talk about any interactions. And I was happy to cooperate and answer any and all of their questions," Pritzker said.

The indictment alleges Madigan met with then governor-elect Pritzker in 2018 to discuss a state board position for former Chicago Ald. Danny Solis, who is working with the feds. U.S. Attorney John Lausch said there are no allegations of wrongdoing by Pritzker.
