Gun shots ring out at Dolton youth football game: Police
DOLTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Youth football games were called off Sunday afternoon after a shooting in Dolton.
It follows another shooting at a youth game on Chicago's South Side last week.
The third quarter had just started between the Dolton Bears and the South Holland Jets at Thornridge High School when witnesses said a man fired up to 10 shots at about 2:45pm.
Parent Dedric Scales told CBS-2 they moved quickly.
"The first thing that came to our mind was [to] tell the children to get down and get covered," Scales said.
The Dolton coach said he believes the gunman was associated with the other team and had an altercation with a Bears parent. Police arrested him and no one was injured, but that game and the remaining scheduled, as part of a homecoming event, were canceled.
