Henyard irked as Thornton trustees again boycott meeting, derailing township business

THORNTON TOWNSHIP (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Tuesday night was to be the final meeting of the year for the board of trustees in Thornton Township. But, as has become the norm, the meeting couldn't proceed because of a lack of a quorum.

Embattled Township Supervisor Tiffany Henyard again was frustrated that two trustees she’s been at odds with, Christopher Gonzalez and Carmen Carlisle, were no-shows.

“You all should reach out to your trustees because they are not doing their job,” Henyard said. “They are neglecting their duty as an elected official, which is to show up.”

Henyard said the township can’t operate, can’t pay bills, can’t accomplish anything, doesn’t have insurance, and that’s impacting residents.

The trustees who have boycotted meetings have said there’s a lack of transparency about how money is spent, among other concerns.

Henyard filed a lawsuit to reverse an effort by the Township Democratic Party to keep her off the ballot in the spring.
