CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Indiana Department of Health has issued new COVID-19 guidance for schools.
A decline in COVID-19 cases has prompted the department to drop requirements that schools report coronavirus cases and conduct contact tracing.
Students who have close contact with someone who is positive no longer have to quarantine, regardless of their vaccination status.
The reporting and contact tracing requirements have been the source of complaints from schools because of the burden.
Many districts have eased away from mask requirements, making masks optional.
“These changes reflect the rapid decline in COVID-19 cases,” Indiana Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box said.
