Jerry Reinsdorf open to selling the White Sox: Report

(670 The Score) White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf is open to selling the franchise, The Athletic reported Wednesday afternoon.

Reinsdorf, who’s 88, is in active discussions with former MLB pitcher Dave Stewart about a potential sale, The Athletic reported. Stewart and his group have previously worked to bring an expansion franchise to Nashville. It's unknown what their intention would be should they acquire the White Sox, The Athletic reported.

Reinsdorf’s willingness to entertain the possibility of selling the team marks a stark departure from his previous stance, as he had long adamantly pushed back at the idea of selling, including when he addressed reporters in August 2023.

“Friends of mine have said, ‘Why don’t you sell, why don’t you get out?’” Reinsdorf said then. “The answer has always been, ‘I like what I’m doing, as bad as it is. And what else would I do?’ I’m a boring guy. I don’t play golf. I don’t play bridge. What else would I do? And I want to make it better. I want to make it better before I go.”

Reinsdorf headlined a group that purchased the White Sox for $19 million in 1981, and he’s been in charge of them ever since. The White Sox won a World Series title in 2005 but have disappointed since then, failing to win a single playoff series since their championship.

The White Sox are coming off a horrific season in which they went 41-121, setting the modern MLB record for the most losses in a single season.
