(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A fire ripped through an apartment complex Saturday evening in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge.
Multiple fire crews battled a massive blaze at an apartment complex on Brooks Lane near 106th Street and Oak Park Avenue around 5 p.m.
Neighbors say firefighters struggled at first with flames spread across the first floor of the three-level building.
Nora told CBS News Chicago she called 911.
“All of a sudden we just seen it coming out of the roof, smoke. There was no fire yet in sight. It was just smoke,” Nora said.
“And even when the firefighters came… they couldn't find the fire at the beginning.”
All the tenants of the apartment complex were evacuated with no injuries reported.
Fire officials say an investigation is underway.
The American Red Cross is working with residents who are now temporarily homeless.
