'I just need a miracle': Mother begs for arrest of person who shot 11-year-old daughter at West Pullman gas station; reward being offered

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There is a reward being offered as a mother begs for an arrest of the person who critically wounded her daughter late Monday night a shooting at a gas station in West Pullman on the Far South Side.

Ny-Andra Dyer, 11, remains hospitalized fighting for her life, while police continue to search for the shooting suspects.

According to police, Ny-Andra was sitting inside a vehicle at a gas pump at the BP gas station in the 100 block of West 127th Street around 11 p.m. Monday when three men got into a gun battle just outside the gas station store. A stray bullet struck the girl in the face.

Police said the 11-year old did not appear to have been the intended target of the shooting. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

As of Tuesday night, police were still looking for suspects. Ny-Andra’s mother begged anyone with information to come forward.

“All I’m looking for is a miracle,” the girl’s mother told CBS 2 while crying. “I just need a miracle from God. I’m just going to stay prayed up.”

She told CBS 2 her daughter has serious brain injuries, and that if the swelling doesn't go down over the next couple of days, the sixth grader could die.

“They messed her up,” Ny-Andra’s mother said. “She will never be the same.”

According to police, the incident occurred when a 18-year-old man was leaving the gas station store and someone fired shots at him striking him in the groin area. The man returned fire, but no one was struck.

The man was brought to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition, according to Chicago fire officials.

A weapon was found in the 12600 block of South Wentworth Avenue, police said, along with more than a dozen shell casings.

Ny-Andra’s mother had a message was for the man who fired the shots, or anyone who knows who pulled the trigger.

“And I’m just asking you, the shooter, please give me some closure for my baby,” the child’s mother said. “She didn’t deserve this.”

A $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the person who shot Ny-Andra Dyer.
