CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Some may want to call this last day of February “No Mask Monday” since Illinois mask mandates were lifted as of midnight around the state in most cases.
Anyone walking into a grocery store or restaurant today will likely see most people’s faces. Same for gyms, bars and other public places. People are still required to wear masks on public transportation, in Chicago Public Schools or any school district that still requires them, health care settings and any business that still wants people to mask up.
The Chicago Department of Public Health has put out a message on social media asking people to be kind to people who choose to wear masks. The message said those people may have autoimmune conditions, have a high-risk family member or may just prefer wearing a mask.
The city of Chicago and Cook County also ended its mask and proof-of-vaccination requirements on Monday.
The statewide COVID-19 test positivity rate is 2.4%.
