South Side Irish Parade returns after two-year hiatus

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – One day after the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off, the South Side Irish Parade will return Sunday after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

People have been lining up early along Western Avenue on this chilly but sunny Sunday for the South Side Irish Parade that kicks off at noon at 103rd Street and Western Avenue and will continue south to 115th Street and Western Avenue.

And attendees are celebrating with seemingly everything from green hats and Irish flags to bagpipes and beer.

The downtown parade may be the official city parade but the South Side Irish Parade is more of the people's parade. But still there is a political presence with many signs up for political candidates, buses for political candidates and Mayor Lori Lightfoot among those scheduled to attend.
