SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A South Chicago Heights man is charged with child endangerment for giving out Halloween candy that may contain marijuana.
Jarod Feilen is, so far, charged with five counts of child endangerment, according to South Chicago Heights police Chief Bill Joyce.
"He did something a little bit outrageous, and it wasn't the smartest thing to do," Joyce said.
What he said he did, according to the chief, was put gummy bears in packets that had contained marijuana bought at a dispensary after he ran out of pre-packaged candy.
"My grandson and my daughter mentioned, 'We think we got bad candy,'" said Jose Villarreal to CBS-2.
Villarreal said there was an odor and flakes that he said he imagined to be marijuana. The candy, yellow gummy bears, in clear, unlabeled film packets, with silver foil and a black back, was passed out on Cherry Lane.
Police were having the candy tested and they want to hear from anyone who thinks their kids got it.
