Suspect still at large in shooting of retired CPD sergeant, police say

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A retired Chicago police sergeant was shot and seriously wounded during what may have been an attempted carjacking Monday in the North Center neighborhood.

It happened at about 9 a.m., at Lincoln and Berteau.

The 74-year-old man was getting out of a Jeep Cherokee.  Police said two people approached and shots were fired.

He was shot twice in the left arm and has a graze wound to the neck.  Police set up a perimeter and searched for the gunmen.

One person was arrested about three hours later. They had been hiding in a business.

The retired sergeant was taken to Illinois Masonic and was initially listed in critical condition.
