CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- At over 100 years old, a massive window that has resided in a Chicago church for years is getting some work done.
“It’s been up there for 100 years,” said Linda Miller, President of Friends of Historic Second Church. “It’s in need of a lot of care.”
The non-profit is helping to restore the 126-year-old “St. Paul Preaching at Athens” window.
“The window itself is very large,” Miller said. “It measures 16 and a half feet high by eight and a half feet wide. It was designed by the studios of Tiffany, which makes it very special. He used wonderful, amazing glass.”
Miller said removing the window from the Second Presbyterian Church of Chicago involves taking all 22 panels out, which she compared to taking apart a puzzle.
It now goes to New York for restoration that’s expected to last about 13 months.
“We know that this interior is beautiful, historically significant, and important to Chicago.”
