The White House has officially released first lady Melania Trump’s portrait just one week into her husband’s second term as president of the United States.
In the portrait, taken by Belgian photographer Régine Mahaux, Melania Trump can be seen posing in the Yellow Oval Room, one of three oval-shaped rooms on the second floor of the iconic home of the president.
The photo was also taken on Jan. 21, a day before the former supermodel and president celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
Days before the inauguration, portraits of President Trump and Vice President Vance were released.
Melania Trump, 54, has been out of the public eye for much of the last four years but now returns to the White House for Trump’s second term. She is only the second first lady to be born outside of the US and the first to become a naturalized citizen, the White House shared.
The first lady was born in Slovenia and raised outside the US until she moved to New York in 1996. Ten years later, she became a US citizen.
Throughout her life, she has had a highly successful modeling career, often appearing in high-profile ad campaigns and working with several of the fashion industry’s top photographers.
The role of the first lady is often one of charitable endeavors, and Melania Trump’s background in charity is extensive. The White House shared that from 2005 to 2009, she was awarded Goodwill Ambassador by the American Red Cross. For five years, she served as the Honorary Chairwoman for the Boys’ Club of New York. In 2010, she was also the Chairwoman of the American Heart Association.
While it’s unclear what projects she will focus on during her husband’s second term, she has mentioned that she’s “focused on the many issues affecting children across the Nation.” She has also expressed her “deep appreciation” for the military and their families.
