Bears safety Jaquan Brisker remains sidelined with 3rd known concussion of his NFL career

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) — Two weeks after reporting symptoms of a concussion, Bears safety Jaquan Brisker hasn't yet been cleared from the protocol.

Brisker was held out of practice Wednesday as the Bears began preparation for their game against the Commanders on Sunday. He suffered the concussion in the Bears' win against the Panthers on Oct. 6, then reported the symptoms one day later.

The 25-year-old Brisker has suffered three known concussions in his first three NFL seasons. On Wednesday, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus pointed to his worries for Brisker on a human level.

“I always have concern with anybody that’s in concussion (protocol),” Eberflus said. “It’s a big injury. It’s something that you got to be very careful about. Our (doctors) do a great job with those guys working through the protocol. That’s what it’s in place and that’s why the NFL has instituted that.

“We’re hoping that he’s getting better every single day.”

Brisker suffered the injury on a violent hit against Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble, who was also diagnosed with a concussion after the contact that occurred on that play.

A second-round pick of the Bears in the 2022 NFL Draft, Brisker has started 35 games in his career. He's renowned for his fearless style of play, though it’s one that comes with a risk to his own health.

In other Bears injury news, nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon (hamstring) was also held out of practice Wednesday. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (calf), cornerback Terell Smith (hip), defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) and long snapper Scott Daly (back) returned to practice.

The Bears designated offensive tackle Larry Borom (ankle) and running back Travis Homer (finger) for a return from injured reserve, opening their 21-day practice windows.

The Bears (4-2) and Commanders (5-2) kick off at 3:25 p.m. CT on from Northwest Stadium.
