DJ Moore was impressed with Justin Fields' performance in his return: 'You can’t ask him to play any better'

(Audacy) Bears quarterback Justin Fields on Sunday didn’t look like a player who had just missed four games with a dislocated thumb.

Fields excelled as he made his return in Chicago’s 31-26 loss to the Detroit Lions. The Bears fell apart down the stretch, but the result hardly was on Fields, who connected on 16 of 23 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown. He also paced Chicago with 104 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Fields looked poised and confident. One of his finer moments came in third quarter, when he put Chicago ahead 20-14 on a dime to top receiver DJ Moore. With the pocket collapsing around him, Fields stepped up and threw a dart to Moore, who caught it in stride in the end zone for a 39-yard touchdown.

Moore was impressed with Fields’ showing in his return.

“He did a good job,” Moore said Monday in his weekly appearance on the Mully & Haugh Show. “He came in, took command of the huddle. He threw when he had to and took off when he had to, he had the designated runs where you’ve got to get him going and (set him up with) what he feels comfortable with. So that was starting off with the pass and then coming back with the run for him.

“That was a good day for him. It sucks that we didn’t come up with the win in his first game back, but shoot, you can’t ask him to play any better.”
