Matt Eberflus denies claim that Bears coaches didn't watch film with Caleb Williams

(670 The Score) Former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has denied a claim that he and the team’s coaching staff didn’t regularly guide quarterback Caleb Williams through film study during the 2024 season.

Eberflus is now the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator and disputed that notion in an appearance on the Doomsday Podcast with Ed Werder.

“In the development of the quarterback position, and really all my positions at the Bears, we always had daily, coached film sessions,” Eberflus said. “That was all throughout the entire year. So, that’s what I observed. That’s where it was.”

The claim surfaced in author Seth Wickersham’s upcoming book “American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback.” An excerpt that was recently released included the quote “No one tells me what to watch – I just turn it on” from Williams to his father, Carl.

Eberflus was fired by the Bears in late November amid what eventually became a 10-game losing streak. It was the first time in franchise history that the Bears dismissed a head coach in the middle of a season. Eberflus was 14-32 in three seasons in Chicago. A few weeks prior, Eberflus had fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions as the Bears went 5-12 in his rookie season.

The Bears hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach in January.
