Matt Eberflus believes Thomas Brown can change the Bears' offense 'significantly' through his play-calling

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) – Bears head coach Matt Eberflus made it clear that the decision to fire offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday was his call, pointing to the need for change for his team's struggling offense.

Eberflus explained that he spent all of Monday considering a change at offensive coordinator, then made his decision Tuesday morning and informed Waldron of his dismissal. The Bears have turned to passing game coordinator Thomas Brown as their new offensive coordinator.

Eberflus believes Brown can enhance the Bears' offense through his play-calling.

"I think significantly, I really do," Eberflus said when asked how much Brown can change in a few days before the Bears host the Packers on Sunday. "And again, that's what we're looking for – significant change and efficiency. We want an efficient, effective offense, from the run game to the screen game to the play-action pass, dropback pass, from A to Z. And I know if we put our minds together and everybody works together, we'll get that done.”

Waldron was hired by Eberflus in January but worked just nine games on the job before his firing. The Bears rank 30th in the NFL in total offense and 24th in scoring through Week 10.

In Brown, Eberflus is now working with his third offensive coordinator in his three seasons in Chicago. That underscores his own struggles as the Bears' head coach.

"It's right there where it is," Eberflus said. "Third play-caller. And I take full accountability for that. I take full responsibility for that. And it's got to get better. It's got to get better. The details of creativity have to improve, and it has to improve this week."

The Bears (4-5) host the Packers (6-3) at noon CT on Sunday at Soldier Field.
