Matt Eberflus: Shane Waldron will remain the Bears' play-caller on offense

(670 The Score) The Bears are standing by first-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron despite continued struggles on that side of the ball.

Waldron will remain the team’s play-caller on offense, head coach Matt Eberflus said Monday. That news came after the Bears struggled mightily in a 29-9 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday and as Chicago ranks 19th in the NFL in scoring and 28th in total offense this season.

"We're looking to find answers, and that's where we're at collectively as a group on offense and defense," Eberflus said.

"We're going to look inward and making sure that we do a good job of utilizing our talents, our skill and really a general basic execution of our plan."

The Bears posted a season-low nine points and just 241 total yards of offense Sunday. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has regressed in recent weeks. He was 22-of-41 for 217 passing yards Sunday.

Waldron was hired by the Bears in January to replace offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, who was fired after two seasons in Chicago. Coincidentally, Getsy was fired by the Raiders as their offensive coordinator late Sunday after just nine games in Las Vegas.

The Bears have a viable alternative to call plays on staff in passing game coordinator Thomas Brown, whom Eberflus interviewed for the offensive coordinator role back in January. Brown served as the Panthers' offensive coordinator in 2023.

The Bears (4-4) host the Patriots (2-7) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
