Dave Grohl and his 15-year-old daughter Violet have dropped a cover of the classic X song “Nausea” and it’s a facemelter.
The Foo Fighters frontman took to his Instagram account to share the backstory on why the father-daughter duo chose the track. For one, it turns out the Grohl’s are related to X’s drummer D.J. Bonebrake.
“I wanted to record a song that would not only pay tribute to the people and music that influenced me to become a musician, but also pay tribute to my long family history. So, what better song than an X song?” Grohl wrote.
“And what better person to sing than my daughter, Violet Grohl, another descendant of Johann Christian Breinbrech. I picked one of my favorite X songs ‘Nausea’ from their 1980 debut album, Los Angeles, and forwarded it to Violet, hoping that she would agree to my most impulsive idea…”
Grohl shares how after Nirvana’s 1992 world tour, his grandmother sent him a note indicating he may be related to Bonbrake. “Bonebrake was my grandmother’s maiden name, Grohl writes. “The Bonebrake family tree can be traced all the way back to Johann Christian Breinbrech, who was baptized in Switzerland February 9, 1642.”
After going through some Grohl/Bonebrake genealogy, Dave revealed that D.J. Bonebrake is a long-lost cousin of the family.
Grohl then went on to gush about bringing Violet aboard for the cover and said “it was a moment that superseded anything musical.”
“A life moment that I will cherish forever. A family moment.”
