From collecting big-time awards at the CMAs and CMTs, to dominating the inaugural 2023 People's Choice Country Awards, the Nashville native admits at times, his success can be hard to wrap his head around. “We started living our dream three or four years ago, now it’s just getting out of hand,” he laughed while catching up with KISS Country 99.9’s TC and Dina B at Audacy’s Riptide Music Festival.
“When I sold out the Exit/In in Nashville, Tennessee or the Ryman [Auditorium] I was like, ‘This is it! If it never gets any better, I’m good. I’ll never sell crack cocaine again!’”
Safe to say Jelly’s troubled years are behind him as he continued to share some big time goals for himself. “I don’t know if it’s this year or next year, but I just dream of that walk of my chair to that stage when they tell us I won a GRAMMY,” he shared. “I’ve thought about it excessively.”
It’s no wonder a big GRAMMY moment has been on his mind as he recently became a first-time nominee, receiving two noms for the 2024 GRAMMY Awards taking place February 4. As he dreams of his big moment, Jelly clarifies he’s not sure it’ll happen this year.
“Full disclosure with each other, I think Vince Gill deserves the 'Country Collab of the Year' — I just think Vince is an icon and I don’t know how many more years we’re going to be around to give him his flowers, so I think we should now. And I think Noah Kahan should win 'New Artist of the Year.' I don’t think I should win either one of them — but if I do, we are gonna turn it up, baby!’”
He continued, “Y’all think I went crazy at the CMAs, I’m bringing the house down at the GRAMMY’s. I’m telling you, the Holy Spirit will show up for sure!’”
Fans can tune in to see the The 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards February 4 via CBS at 8PM ET / 5PM PT. To hear more about Jelly’s reaction to his nominations, his record year, and his recent experience at WWE Raw check out his full interview with TC and Dina B above.
